1. Check the licence at MyFloridaLicense
Florida pool builders hold a Certified Pool/Spa Contractor (CPC) licence issued by the DBPR. Search the company or qualifier at MyFloridaLicense.com and confirm the status is Current/Active and the name matches the company you are hiring.
2. Confirm the qualifier
A licence is held by a “qualifier” — a person. Make sure the qualifier on the licence is actually tied to the company quoting you, not a licence borrowed from someone else.
3. Ask for insurance certificates
Request current general-liability and workers'-compensation certificates. A legitimate builder produces these without friction.
4. Check for complaints
The DBPR record shows disciplinary history. A pattern of complaints is a reason to keep looking.
